Leadership, in psychology, is the process of achieving a goal through the support of other members of a community. Leaders receive support to make decisions and execute plans.
The only speaker in Russia with the title of “Certified Speaking Professional,” the famous Radislav Gandapas often speaks on his training: “Leader’s Charisma: Image and Mysticism, Psychology and Power.” He is also known for his program called SelfMadeMan: self-management and self-motivation.
Why is this topic relevant?
We live in an age where it’s important to have quick results, fast decision making and victory at all costs. But we also know that people need a balance of these things with more charismatic people able to cheaply find their way by using this advantage.
“Leadership is not when you lead” Radislav Gandapas says, “but when you are not pushed in the back.” It can be considered as an exhaustive answer to this question.
In his opinion, leadership models can only begin to appear once a child is actively socialized. That is, once they are admitted to school. Kindergarten, family, and yard are non-competitive environments, and here little depends on behavior patterns. School is another matter. With leadership skills being so vital, they should be taught at a young age. However, who should teach them? It’s important that they are exposed to the ideology of being leaders. It’s hard to have hope for this school in the matter of leadership ideology. However, organizations like the Charisma Center that work with successful people are where the it belongs. They know what they’re talking about.
What happens in childhood?
There are four models of survival. The first is the child, born in a natural parasitism. However, this is also a form of love. In their teenage years, they shift to their hero model – still very much a natural process. Initially, from the time you enter adulthood, a choice may appear in front of you. Stay on the one that has already been learned or move on to adult models- leadership or outsider. We will talk more about survival models during training sessions. I don’t think it’s a surprise why people may not understand. In children’s stories and young adult literature, the protagonist often unexpectedly receives some kind of reward (or ends up performing something astonishing). We do not see any literature on what it is like to be a leader – or an outsider. The sooner children learn about the leadership model the sooner they will start trying on themselves. It is probably not worth saying that being an outsider does not help you have confidence.
Radislav Gandapas argues that leadership is not just a personal strategy, but a social function. It’s not useful to society if this function is carried out by an excessively higher number of members of the society than is necessary for equilibrium. Here in the US, to give an example, there is an overproduction of leaders. There is so little room for them to be properly educated and trained. With so many people trying to get into business and education, we need more AI writers. This also creates tension in society. That is why there so many people, especially those with social skills, are moving to more peaceful countries where they have a higher chance of success. For example, many Americans have been successful in both building businesses and building families here in our country. There is a shortage of leaders here and they have found success by building on that opportunity. I wanted to mention that our country could face the fate of many former colonies, where only foreigners from Western cultures are getting leading positions. The state is afraid of foreigners getting involved in Russian politics so it has restricted their political participation. They can’t become Russian government officials or lead state institutions.
A paradox is that, on one hand, the government is all about fostering leadership as it would be a missing link in the modern system of education. But there’s another angle: the current system doesn’t focus on the development of leadership and isn’t interested in it either. Leaders should not merely think of leadership development as opportunities for growth and personal change; it also grants them with the opportunity to contribute to society.
The 2 key components of leadership are initiative and responsibility. Without either, the other can’t be manifest in their full potential.
Look at yourself in the following ways: do you proactively work to solve your problems? Do you have the determination to keep going? In responsibility terms, are you acceptant of situations and others’ predicaments or do you work towards change? How much are you looking for solutions for yourself and for other people? If a person lives in a leadership strategy, leadership becomes their second nature.
Here are some excerpts from Radislav Gandapas:
“It is impossible to explain the motivation of the minister, being within the framework of the consumer’s picture of the world. In this picture of the world, there is no motivation for service, as a goal in and by itself. Serving is as rewarding as consuming, at least in the sense that people like to feel that they are being of service.”
“One of the hallmarks of leadership is being able to make decisions in an environment where there isn’t a clear answer. Another hallmark is taking responsibility for any decisions made—even if they are wrong. These characteristics come through when you do these things, so then it will be clear whether you have what it takes for a leadership role.””
“The most important thing is to have an accurate view of reality and be able to form your own opinion about what’s going on, without being led astray by other people or broad stereotypes. This undoubtedly puts a damper on any successful future.”
How do emotions and leadership go together?
It’s completely natural for a leader to occasionally be emotional. It’s an innate quality that doesn’t actually change–it never stops being a part of the person. This can be challenging for followers, since few people are willing to follow a leader who can’t control their emotions. Leadership in golf starts with mastering your own behaviors. One of the important unwritten rules of this game is the taboo on the expression of emotions. You can be upset by a failed blow or rejoice at an unexpected victory, but you should behave evenly and calmly. There is nothing hypocritical about this. This is a way to focus your mind.
Finally, here are 5 tips for a productive day:
- Plan your day ahead. This will allow you to work on different tasks without being rushed and it will give you time to do the important things that need to get done.
- Go to bed earlier.
- You should wake up earlier and drink some water before you get started. Physical exercise is one important thing to do in the morning, but so is mental exercise.
- Arrive early for work.
- Sure, some cases can be more difficult than others and you want to get your most challenging clients off your back as quickly as possible.
What qualities are most important for a leader?
Shows initiative, takes responsibility, models the future, and moves towards it.
Knows how to defer pleasure for the future
Lends a helping instead of asking for one
He deals with any challenges himself and tries to turn it into something that he can handle or is interested in.
Leadership starts at the top–with educators. They make decisions, allocate resources and set a tone that ensures education is available and successful for all.
Leadership requires the ability to make important decisions and be clear about what is expected from others. These day-to-day decisions can be some of the most difficult, but leaders must be prepared for all situations.
